During instruction, both dogs and their families are offered several courses where they can adapt the best strategy to the best result.
In all courses, the family is invited to actively participate and guide the dog whenever it is working under the instructions of our technicians
. Our working method is based on promoting the natural qualities of each dog to suit the needs of each family’s lifestyle, which improves both the quality of their lives and the family environment without using violent, unnecessary methods such as electric shocks and pinch and prong collars that pierce a dog’s throat and that are unfortunately used in many so-called quality training centres whilst competent authorities did not react even during training courses officially administered by national and international trainers.
In our thirty years of experience in handling dogs, we have never used unnecessary, truly barbarous training methods and have been discredited for not hitting the dogs, which always made us very proud. We have always been famous for this and have been constantly thanked and rewarded by the performance of dogs we have trained and the heartfelt gratitude and recognition of their owners.
We are also honoured to have been training the second generation of owners for many years, which proves their predecessors’ confidence in our training abilities based on a lot of work, exercise and fun for dogs, owners and instructors.
Over the years we have been asked many questions about CANINUS, Hotel e Instrução Canina. Below are a few examples:
QUESTIONS ON DOG TRAINING
1 - I would like to train my dog with you. What do I have to do to start training?
Just contact us on 969051422 or e-mail caniroa@caniroa.pt and register your dog whenever you like.
2 - What training methods do you use? I hope no physical or psychological violence is used for training my dog.
We never use any method that may harm dogs physically or psychologically. We have always been strictly against the use of pinch and prong collars and electric shocks.
3 – Can I visit CANINUS Hotel e Instrução Canina before registering my dog on one of your courses?
Yes, so long as you make an appointment in advance and bring your dog along to get to know his/her future “school” so that we can give you a proper welcome.
4 – I would like to accompany my dog’s training. How and when can I take part it?
The family is always invited to take part in training their dog in as many training sessions as possible. We don’t have anything to hide and we like owners to give their opinions and share their experiences.
5 – What food and how much during training do you give my dog?
We use the most appropriate dog food for your dog from the NutraGold Holistic range as it guarantees high quality and safety.
6 – My dog trained somewhere else. Will you accept him/her to improve his/her knowledge?
Yes, we will but his/her previous training standards must be assessed first for the best future training plan to be prepared.
7 – What course should I choose for my dog?
Usually, we start with the obedience course and then progress to other more advanced courses.
8 – How do I know my dog is progressing during training?
Both dog, family and instructors together form a part of a well-organised team to help the dog to complete the training, which is in constant communication, direct, by phone, and e-mail.
9 - Is there a trainer who is responsible for my dog and responds directly to me?
Yes, CANINUS has always responded individually and personally for each course given to each dog and respective family.
10 – Are the classes for owners or dogs given individual or in groups?
They are always individual. We have always believed that group classes are of very little help or none at all to the quality of a dog’s training and, in several cases, may bring about more problems than solutions.
We often train together with several dogs at the same time to increase the degree of difficulty and expertise of the training but with one family at a time.
11 – How long does a training session usually last at CANINUS Hotel e Instrução?
Although we only train one family at a time, each session can last one or two hours, which has always made us different to others and extremely well referenced.
12 – Will my dog work with me like it does at the CANINUS centre?
Of course. If not, our excellent programme wouldn’t work. Thirty years’ experience proves that we’re on the right track.
13 – What level of training should I expect my dog to have achieved at the CANINUS centre?
Always a high level. Normally, what we teach dogs and their respective families is more demanding than what owners were expecting at the start.
14 – After completing the course, can I count on your support for more advanced courses and maintaining former training?
Yes, of course. You can count on our support for more advanced courses or maintenance after any of our courses. Normally, this turns into a long-term friendship.
15 – I don’t have transport to take my dog for training. Can you come and pick him/her up and bring him/her back after training?
Yes. During training we offer your dog the correct form of legal transport established for live animals – not in closed vans that are not acclimatised like we unfortunately see in other places and at dog shows. (see more in the transport link).
QUESTIONS ON THE HOTEL FOR DOGS
1 – What type of facilities does your hotel for dogs have?
CANINUS Hotel e Instrução Canina is located at a farm in the Ribatejo and has +/-3 hectares just for dogs and its facilities are much bigger than people expect.
2 – What type of food do you give my dog at your hotel?
We provide the most adequate food for your dog from the NutraGold holistic range.
3 – What type of exercise and what are the dimensions of your hotel for walking my dog?
We have +/- 3 hectares of land for the dogs to run and play freely, much more than our average competitors.
4 – How many times a day does my dog exercise?
Twice a day. Normally, they exercise more when they are at the hotel than they do at home.
5 – If my dog needs veterinary treatment while staying with you, can I be sure that he/she will be immediately attended to?
Of course. We don’t want unhealthy dogs and if we notice that something’s wrong, we automatically take him/her to the Hospital Veterinário do Ribatejo.
6- Does your hotel have its own veterinary backup or do I have to interrupt my holidays to take care of my dog?
Yes. We have 24 hours/day, 7 days/week, 365 days/year permanent backup from the Hospital Veterinário do Ribatejo.
7 – Your hotel is a long way from where I live. Is there any other kennel nearer at hand?
Due to the high level of quality of our services, it is difficult to recommend other places. At the request of many customers, we extended the area we cover to the counties of Lisbon, Oeiras, Cartaxo and Santarém. (see more in the transport link).
8 – I have no means of transport to take my dog to your hotel. Can you come and pick him/her up and bring him/her back after my holidays?
Yes. At the request of many customers, we extended the free door-to-door transport area we cover to the counties of Lisbon, Oeiras, Cartaxo and Santarém. (see more in the transport link).
9 – How do I get to your hotel and when can I take my do there?
